A Bit About Me

Greetings,

I have worked in all areas of hospitality operations and management. With over 20 years' management experience I have worked for Starwood Lodging, Westin Hotels, Benchmark hospitality, the Boutique Hotel Collection, King Ventures, and Reynolds Resorts.  I have held positions of General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Food and Beverage Director, Banquet Manager, Wine Director, & Sommelier.

I began my hospitality career in the Lake Tahoe area working in Hotels and Restaurants.  One of my first experiences in making quick decisions and how to handle guests in adverse situations came one snowy afternoon at the River Ranch Lodge just outside of Tahoe City.  An avalanche closed highway 89 in both directions just past the River Ranch.  It was between meal periods and the only staff that were at the restaurant were myself, the chef, the bookkeeper and a bartender.  (The other cooks and servers had gone into town for burritos and were trapped on the other side of the avalanche).  Once the ski day ended, close to four hundred people came down from Alpine Meadows ski area and could not travel in either direction.  They all ended up in the bar and the restaurant.  I was a busser at the time and had never officially 'waited' on tables.  The chef said we should just close.  I said with all these hungry people?  I'll just take care of them one at a time.  I ended up taking the entire restaurant with the help of the bookkeeper.  The chef just kept pumping out food.  We went through everything in the walk-in down to serving hot dogs.  People were standing everywhere, yelling for food, drinks whatever.  At some point the bartender disappeared and I ended up taking over the bar as well.  I started at one end of the bar and said 'tell me what you want and I'll do my best to make it.  Everyone will get something eventually if you just be patient.  I made everyone happy in the end.  Though I still have nightmares about that evening staring at a completely full dining room with all arms waving at me.

Since then I've managed hotels and resorts, catering operations, dining rooms, wine cellars, spa operations and RV Campgrounds.

For the past 16 years I have served as General Manager for Costanoa, an outdoor adventure, eco-destination.

Since 2015 I served as a board member for The SF Peninsula (formerly San Mateo/Silicon Valley Visitors Convention Business Bureau).  2021-2022 I served as Chairman of the Board.  In 2020 I received the President’s Award and commendations from the County of San Mateo for exemplary service and dedication to promoting tourism for the county of San Mateo.

In 2020 I was also awarded a commendation for valor for organizing the evacuation of close to 1,000 guests from Costanoa as the CZU Lightening Complex fire burned toward the resort.

If you think you have a hospitality issue, I'm fairly confident I've encountered it and can come up with a plan.
